Selena

Selena (16 April 1971 - March 31, 1995), was born Selena Quintanilla, a Mexican American singer, dancer, model, fashion designer, actress and producer. She was named the top Latin artist 90 years "and" Best Latin Artist of the sale of the decade "in Billboard, in connection with its 14 top ten singles on the charts in Latin songs, including 7 in the charts. Selena attained further importance after she was murdered at the age of 23, Yolanda Saldivar, the president of her fan club [13]. reaction of Selena's death was compared to that of John Lennon, and the shocking death of Elvis Presely in. Selena released her crossover album, dreaming about you in a few months after her death and debuted at # 1 Billboard 200 charts, Selena became the first artist to debut a bilingual Billboard 200 [14]. As the album progress, dreaming of you have become a top 10 selling albums of all time [15] along with being the biggest selling debut album in the artist [16] and the one I Could Fall in Love became the highest-ranking English songs in the hot Latin Tracks [17]. Shortly after her death, her five studio albums appeared simultaneously on Billboard 200 [18]. On April 12, 1995, two weeks after her death, George Bush, Texas governor at the time, said her birthday "Selena Day" in Texas [19]. Warner Bros production of Selena, the film based on her life starring Jennifer Lopez, in 1997, . Selena life was also the basis of musical Selena Forever Starring Veronica Vazquez as Selena. April 6, 2005, 10 years after the death of Selena, Univision wide network of Casting, Selena ¡VIVE! Which lasted until the record 35.9 household rating and was the highest rated and most popular Spanish television special in the history of U.S. television and became number 1 in the program regardless of language among adults 18-34 in Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco [20]. Selena was born in Lake Jackson, Texas, and the youngest child of Mexican [22] father, Abraham J
Quintanilla r. and Marcella Ophelia Zamora, [23], and was raised by Jehovah's Witnesses [24]. She began singing at the age of 6, and when she was nine her father founded the singing group Selena at Los Dinos, which she facade. First, they run a restaurant family in Quintanilla, Pappa Gayo, but the restaurant failed shortly [19].
The family soon went bankrupt and was evicted from his home. Taking their musical equipment in an old bus, they moved to Corpus Christi, Texas. There, they performed wherever they could: at the crossroads, weddings, quinceañeras and fairs. [25] Their efforts to spread their names and talents paid off in 1985, when 14-year-old Selena recorded her first album, local record companies. The album is not sold in stores and her father bought all the copies. [Citation needed] It was reissued in 1995 under the title "Mis Primeras Grabaciones. Selena is good at school, but as she grew more popular musician, travel requirements of its implementation schedule began to interfere with her education. Her father pulled her out of school altogether when she was in eighth grade. Death:

                                             In early 1995 Quintanillas discovered that Yolanda Saldivar, who was president of Selena's fan club (Texas Section) and the head of its boutiques, was stealing money from the fan club, and decided to fire her. Soon after the fallout, Selena agreed to meet Saldivar at the hotel Days Inn in Corpus Christi [31] on the morning of March 31, 1995, to obtain documents for tax purposes. In the hotel, Selena demanded the missing financial documents. Saldivar transmission delay, claiming she was raped in Mexico. [4], the singer went Saldivar at a local hospital, where doctors found no evidence of rape [32]. Saldivar returned to the motel where Selena again demanded the missing financial documents.
Selena Saldivar said he can not trust anymore. At 11:49 am, Saldivar drew a pistol from her purse, pointing it at Selena. As the singer turned and left the room, Saldivar shot her once in the back. Seriously wounded, Selena ran towards the lobby to get help. She collapsed on the floor, clerk, 911, with Saldivar chasing her, calling her "bitch" [33]. Before falling to the floor, Selena named Saldivar as her assailant and gave the room number where she had been shot. [34] After an ambulance and police arrived on the scene, Selena was transported to a local hospital. She died there from blood loss at 1:05 pm, two weeks before his twenty-fourth birthday [35]. After death:
Selena's death have widespread impact. Major networks interrupted their regular programs to break the news, Tom Brokaw referred to Selena, as the "Mexican Madonna" [36]. Numerous vigils and memorials were held in her honor, and radio stations in Texas played her music non-stop. [4] The funeral drew approximately 60,000 mourners, many of whom traveled from outside the United States. [4] Among the celebrities who are reported to have immediately phoned Quintanilla family to express their condolences were Gloria Estefan, Julio Iglesias, Madonna [25]. People magazine published a commemorative issue in honor of Selena and her music career under the name of Selena 1971-1995, her life in pictures. [4] Several days later, Howard Stern mocked Selena murder and burial, scoffed at her funeral, and criticized her music. Stern said: "This music does absolutely nothing for me." Alvin and the Chipmunks more soul ... Spanish people have the worst taste in music. They have no depth. Stern's comments anger and fury of the Hispanic population in Texas. [37] After the random order arrest behavior was released in his name, Stern later made on air apology, in Spanish, for his comments. [38] Two weeks after her death on April 12, George Bush, then governor of Texas, declared Selena's birthday 1916 April, as "Selena Day" in Texas.
That summer, the album Selena dreaming of you, a combination of Spanish-language songs and new English language tracks, debuted at number 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200, making her the first Hispanic singer to accomplish this feat [39], and a second place debut after Michael's HIStory Jackson. [25] On its release date, the album sold over 175,000 copies, a record for a pop singer, woman, and was sold 2 million copies in its first year. [40] Such songs as "I Could Fall in Love" and "Dreaming of You" played well the main English radio, with the latter reaching # 21 on the Billboard Hot 100. Meanwhile, "I Could Fall In Love", and not subject to the Hot 100 at the time, reached # 8 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart and Top 10 Adult Contemporary chart. David Byrne pays tribute to Selena on his past tours with Tosca Strings child, performing their duo God. "Dreams of You" was certified 3x Platinum in the Recording Industry Association of America.
