Sky High Subsidies First Blood To Boeing

World Trade Organization ruled today that the billions of dollars in European subsidies provided to Airbus launch aid to develop its commercial aircraft is illegal.

U.S. first complained to the WTO six years ago that a low or zero interest loans to Airbus by governments, including Spain, Germany and Britain since 1970 to develop the plane and research, violated competition rules.

WTO upheld the complaint and considered that the financing of the current development of A380 Airbus' must now be reorganized.

The European Commission within 60 days to appeal today's decision, but not announced whether it will do it.

The EU has a similar complaint with the WTO on subsidies the U.S. government granted Boeing. The decision on this case is expected next month, but CEO Jim McNerney Boeing announced the verdict today, "a historic decision and an extensive legal victory."

Manage the U.S. Trade Representative, deserves enormous credit for today's decision. Now to join the U.S. government called for full compliance with the ruling and continued the restoration of fair competition in our industry, "said McNerney.

"This decision is a landmark and an extensive legal victory over the launch aid subsidies have contributed to the growth and Airbus, which continue to deliver its products the main cost advantage," said Boeing Chairman, President and CEO Jim McNerney.
