Two employees of Tampa, Fla., police officers were shot during a traffic stop today, and the massive search is conducted on a man and woman suspected in the killings.Officer Jeffrey Kocab, 31, was killed in the 2:15 am shooting not far from downtown Tampa, police said. Officer David Curtis, 31, died in hospital after putting on life support.
Kocab, who joined the department 14 months ago, leaving behind his wife Sarah, who was eight months pregnant, according to the Tampa Tribune. Curtis, father of four sons, aged 8 months to 9 years. His family plans to donate his organs, reports said.
"That's an incredible tragedy for these families and for a large family of TPA and for a large family in Tampa," Mayor Pam Iorio said at a press conference. "Our hearts are just breaking. It is so very tragic."
Police said they are looking for 2 "interested persons" are defined as Dontae Morris, 24, and Nicole Brantley, 22. They were driving a red Toyota Camry, 2004, officials said. The car matches the description was found later, but not arrested, reportedly, in accordance with the Tampa Bay Online.
"We know that they are armed and very dangerous," Tampa police spokesperson Laura McElroy said the Associated Press. "We do not know what they are capable."
McElroy said Curtis pulled the car because it has no visible label, and he called for backup after a background check showed male passenger vehicle was wanted on offense charge for writing fake checks.
Six minutes later, a witness called police to report Curtis and Kocab were shot.
