India To Observe A Partial Lunar Eclipse

NEW DELHI: Partial lunar eclipse will be visible in the north-eastern part of the country, like the moon on Saturday will be covered by Earth's shadow.Eclipse in India will begin at 2:27 pm and ends at 7:50 pm Partial eclipse phase will last 2:00 43 minutes. This eclipse will be the last in 2010 in India.


At the initial stage of an eclipse will be visible in the central part of South America, north-eastern United States, central Canada and parts of the Arctic Ocean.

The final phase will be seen in some parts of the Indian Ocean, north-east India, China, Mongolia and north-eastern part of Russia.

"Visibility in India will end the eclipse. The end of the eclipse can be seen from the extreme north-eastern states during the rising of the moon during an eclipse," said the Ministry of Earth Sciences.

Lunar eclipse occurs when Earth is in a straight line between the sun and the moon. The moon has no light of its own, instead, it reflects sunlight. During a lunar eclipse, the moon is in the shadow of the Earth.

According to experts, no filters needed to view the eclipse.

"You can spot the moon in the east after sundown. It would see the upper part of the disk of the Moon is immersed in the dark shadow of the earth and slowly disappearing," said N. Raghunandan Kumar, general secretary of the Planetary Society.

The next lunar eclipse will occur on December 21, but will not be visible in India.
