Collins Through A Project Kick

Sherron Collins looked like the best player in college basketball in January, when he stubbornly refused to let his team lose against teams loaded Baylor, which was in flames, in Allen Fieldhouse. Collins played 38 minutes, do not turn once, Convex 4 gears, scored 28 points and responded to every challenge in the in-your-hand fashion. Wonderful work.

Venerable Boston Globe columnist Bob Ryan knows a winner when he sees one. Ryan, who cover "Celtics" from the time of black high-top Converse sneakers and buzz cuts, and took the game with his wife.

"He's Ty Lawson," Ryan said when I asked him what he thinks of Collins.

Lawson, a former North Carolina guard, averaged 8.3 points and 3.1 assists in 20.3 minutes per game Denver Nuggets, as a rookie last season. High praise, and he seemed so well suited.

On Thursday night, ESPN NBA Draft coverage, Collins has been reduced to hit the line.

In an interview after the receipt of selected New Orleans Hornets, Cole Aldrich was asked about playing with Chris Paul, a luxury broker. Aldrich said that he was accustomed to this, having played with Collins in Kansas. It was nice to mix it into the slot for his former teammate. She failed. Former NBA coach Jeff Van Gundy, and blessed with terrific dry sense of humor, referred to return, when news broke that Aldrich is currently traded in Oklahoma City. He said, OKC proper size, "Plus it should be sold, if he compares Sherron Collins and Chris Paul." Oops!

Van Gundy's brother, Stan, head coach of the Orlando Magic ", and then the project appreciated his brother for what is called the line of the night.

Collins, Chris Paul ever talent, but if he did everything right from the moment Baylor game ended, compared with Ty Lawson could gain momentum.

Nevertheless, after Baylor, except for some major games here and there, Collins does not keep the noise about him alive. His last game, 5-turnover, 4-for-15 shooting effort against Northern Iowa, was one of the worst of it. body language of his teammates that night hinted they thought that he hogged ball.

After the season, Collins tore the team banquet. This kind of thing goes around and when you're 5 feet 11 inches and have a constant struggle to stay in shape, you should do things to make the group speak into taking a chance. You can not do things that make the group a miracle.

Weight Collins to go down after the season. He went in another direction. Since the project had on the night, Collins began to feel Longshot to choose. Finally, at the 60 th and final selection of the night, Collins was drafted. That would be Dwayne Collins, forward at the University of Miami.

punch lines of the evening took a blow to the stomach from reality.

Collins and his agent will try to find a team lacks the depth of the point guard and try to catch as undrafted player. Just six players listed as a guard point or combo guard were among 60 players chosen. Of these 6, only 6-1 Eric Bledsoe Kentucky shorter than 6-3.

Top Gun always comes on draft night. Collins, missed that one.
