Major Earthquake Near Solomon Islands, No Tsunami Warning

6.9 magnitude earthquake struck near Solomon Islands on Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said, and officials in the capital Honiara said that no immediate reports of damage.


The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake struck at a depth 35 km (21,7 miles) from Kira Kira, but officials said that this view quite strongly in the capital for more than 200 km (124 miles) from the epicenter.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said no tsunami warning.
