Ohio Running Back Cedric Benson Charged With Assault | NFL

NFL: Benson allegedly punched bar workers last month in Texas: Running back Cedric Benson of Ohio, was arrested Tuesday on charges of assault offenses for allegedly punching a bar employee in person on May 30 in Austin, Texas.

Benson, 27, was ordered to jail Travis County, where he later posted bail of $ 5000 and was released. The charge of assault with injury carries a maximum penalty of a potential of up to $ 4000 in fines and up to one year in prison.

In 2008, Benson was arrested twice in a month on alcohol charges, which were subsequently withdrawn. While in college in Texas, he was suspended for a game and he pleaded no contest to charges of criminal breach of forcing his way into the apartment to find a TV, he said, was stolen from him.

Benson led Bengals with a career high 1,251 yards in 2009.
