Nieburger said the body was found two miles from Lopez, which had disappeared.
Investigators believe Lopez, who is a junior at Valley View High School, was kidnapped on the morning of July 15. "There were signs of a struggle," said Nieburger. "We believe that it may be taken against her will."
According to police, Lopez had just left class at Valley View School and plans to meet her younger sister and a friend at home. It is believed Lopez, who is a senior in the fall, took a shortcut through the dirt field to achieve family residence.
Her sister called the police when Lopez did not return home.
Personal items belonging to Lopez, who were found in the area suggest that it may have been abducted, Deputy Nieburger said. "These are the elements that you would not leave," she added.
An extensive search of the missing teens continues today, Nieburger said. "They are active investigation. We used all our resources," she said CNN. "We have used dogs, sniffer dogs, and numerous units and all of our detectives will continue to work to."
Police seeking green "SUV-type vehicle, which was seen driving from the area during the Lopez disappeared.
Nieburger asked the public to help find Lopez. "Obviously, we just want it to be found safe," she said.
